Captain Marvel has one of the longest histories of any comic book character. Created for Fawcett Comics, the character was incredibly popular in the 1940s. The character has also had his fair share of legal issues, as he is now owned by DC Comics and goes by the name Shazam!


Originally a character of Fawcett Comics, first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (February 1940)
Created by Bill Parker (writer) / C.C. Beck (artist)
DC Comics licensed the characters in 1972 and had owned them all by 1991
Originally was to be called Captain Thunder; was named Captain Marvel, now known as Shazam! As of new 52
He has been a member of the Justice League and the Justice Society of America

Shazam the Wizard - ancient Egyptian wizard that fights evil, but needs to pass his powers along; had given powers to Black Adam previously
