Bettina Rheims has photographed stars of cinema, catwalk queens and even a French president. The subjects of her latest exhibition, however, are not so accustomed to the pop of flashbulbs. Rheims spent a winter making portraits of women serving time in female prisons to make up the series "Détenues", or "Inmates". She tells us about the need to look and be looked at and how a camera can bring some much-needed light to dark spaces.
