Archduke of guitar noise, Lee Ranaldo released a solo album this year called Electric Trim. The music shows a lifer aging well. There's a noisy “A Day in the Life" sort of crescendo in here that comes and goes with cool fluidity. That, along with the vocal harmonies and organ, give the song a '60s character I never associated with Lee's role in Sonic Youth. This music is special, another gift to the world from a bona-fide weirdo.

Mute Records 2017.
