This has been a year of milestones: Woodstock, the Moon Landing … and one that has gone slightly under the radar. 2019 also marks the 50th anniversary of Steeleye Span, founded in 1969 by Ashley Hutchings, Maddy Prior and Tim Hart. Ashley was a past member of Fairport Convention, and he formed Steeleye Span to present English traditional music on electric instruments. For our retrospective, we’ll feature music from all of the founding members from the years preceding the band’s formation as well as some great tunes from the first three Steeleye Span recordings. We celebrate the most durable of English folk-rock bands … this week on The Sing Out! Radio Magazine.
