Geoffrey Arnold Beck, better known as Jeff Beck, was born on June 24, 1944, in Wallington, England. His fast intricate style of playing guitar was influential on several genres of popular music, including jazz rock, and heavy metal.

In 1965, Beck’s style caught the attention of members of the Yardbirds. He joined the band replacing Eric Clapton, but the gig only lasted a year when Beck formed his own band, The Jeff Beck Group with Ron Wood on bass, Nicky Hopkins on keyboards, and Rod Stewart on vocals.  In 1970, Jeff was injured in an automobile accident interrupting his career, but he recovered and formed a new Jeff Beck Group in 1971, and in a collaboration with Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert released two albums.

In 1975, Beck released an all-instrumental album produced by Sir George Martin which featured a jazzier approach that was well received by the public and critics. This became his style for the remainder of his career.

In later years Beck maintained a relatively low profile, touring occasionally and recording. He has recorded with Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Tina Turner, Sly Stone, Buddy Guy Van Morrison, Buddy Miles, Donovan, and  many other artists.

Jeff Beck wasn’t afraid to talk about his music in a career that spanned over 50 years, Beck developed a sonic vocabulary with his inventive style which defied categorization.  He received eight Grammy awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and as a solo artist in 2009.  Jeff Beck died on January 10, 2023, Wadhurst, England.
