La recherche universitaire peut-elle nous éclairer sur les rites et les codes sociaux qui régissent la culture heavy metal ? 30 minutes de gros son, de sueur et d’analyse !  On ne naît pas métalleux·se, on le devient. Les sonorités abrasives et l’imagerie terrifiante agissent comme un repoussoir qui semble crier « toi, étranger, passe ton chemin ». Comme dans toutes les sociétés secrètes, l’apprentissage se fait progressivement.  Il faut apprivoiser la bête. Lorsqu’un·e chercheur·euse la capture, elle devient un objet d’étude à part entière.   Pourquoi cette musique violente fait-elle du bien ? Quelle est la place des femmes dans cette communauté ?  Peut-on conjuguer blasphème et dévotion ?
