Cocaine & Rhinestones: The History of Country MusicTyler Mahan Coe
The podcast about 20th Century County Music and the lives of those who gave it to us.
Want to hear a story? Country music is full of them, always with a killer soundtrack, sometimes a soundtrack made by a killer - like Spade Cooley, the only convicted murderer to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Or there’s the time Loretta Lynn released a song about birth control in the 1970s and everyone pretty much lost their minds. You’ve heard those? You sure? Millions of people think they know all about Merle Haggard’s 1969 song, “Okie from Muskogee,” but they’ve had it wrong the whole time. You’ll find those stories and others right here, obsessively researched, written and narrated by Tyler Mahan Coe, a lifelong veteran of country music and its mythology. Country music fans already know this is their new obsession but read the reviews and you’ll see how fast it’s catching on with listeners new to the genre. No other podcast is telling these stories, not like this. Start at the beginning. Press play. [If you aren't sure about the first episode, try Wynonna or the Kershaws. After that, though, you will want to return to the first episode and go from there. The show is constructed in seasons and episodes are presented in a careful order. You’ll find text transcripts of every episode at cocaineandrhinestones.com. Support the podcast for as little as $2 a month at patreon.com/tylermahancoe.]

In the world of music podcasting, there are basically two categories - podcasts by fans, and podcasts by famed musicians that have reached the pinnacle of success. Somewhere in the middle of that is the Talk Toomey podcast. Hosted by Joshua Toomey, who previously was a member of national recording artists Primer 55, Talk Toomey avoids the pitfalls of fandom and the backslapping glad handing that comes from successful bands shamelessly talking to each other. Instead, you get focused, powerful and real looks into “the inner circle” of being a hard rock/heavy metal band, complete with questions most are too afraid to ask because their experience doesn’t meet or exceed the level needed to ask and relate. Talk Toomey has been regularly hailed as a top show since the onset, being highlighted on sites like Blabbermouth, Brave Words, etc. Talk Toomey is released for music fans free every Thursday!

We are convinced that lovers of classical music include people who are always looking for (1) music that they have not heard before that might attract them, and (2) the best performance of music that they are familiar with and already enjoy.
This website was created to help these music lovers achieve both goals. We are uniquely able to fulfill this mission because we bring together two exceptional resources that are not available on any other classical music website: (1) a classical music record collection that includes over 60,000 recordings of more than 35,000 different pieces of music from every corner of the globe, representing every historical period from biblical times to the present — one of the largest collections of classical music in the world; and (2) the expertise of some of the best professional music commentators, musicians, and composers involved in the classical music world.
With these unique resources we present three specialized podcasts and the opportunity to respond to them through our blog: (1) "Buried Treasure" will introduce music from all periods and places, providing an opportunity to explore rarely heard works; (2) panel discussions on the interpretation of classical music in which well-established record critics will review recordings of more familiar works, play excerpts of the performances under review, and explain their individual standards for judging performance; and (3) a podcast in which one of the leading composers in New York interviews notable performers and composers, discussing with them the latest developments in classical music.
