L’histoire est évidemment basée sur le célèbre roman d’Alexandre Dumas, adaptée pour la chaîne japonaise NHK. La série arrive en France à la rentrée de septembre 1989 sur La Cinq, dans Youpi l’école est finie. Le générique est directement adapté de la version japonaise. Il est interprété par Michel Barouille dont c'est le premier pour la chaîne.
