Cette série japonaise produite par Toei Company est un tokusatsu, une production live avec des effets spéciaux dans la lignée de X-Or, Spielvan ou Winspector. Elle arrive en France dans le Club Dorothée sur TF1 en juillet 1989. Comme pour presque tous les génériques de l’émission, celui de Metalder est évidemment composé par Gérard Salesses sur des paroles de Jean-François Porry, alias Jean-Luc Azoulay. Quant au chant, on reconnaît la voix de Jean-Paul Césari (Nicky Larson, Les Bioniques, Dancougar)...
