Grâce à une lentille gravitationnelle, des astronomes ont observé trois images en rayons X qui correspondent à deux sources situées dans l’univers jeune, probablement un couple de trous noirs supermassifs séparés de seulement 650 années-lumière et situés 2 milliards d’années après la singularité initiale. L’étude est publiée dans The Astrophysical Journal.
