L’introduction du label de la « société à mission » avec la loi PACTE de 2019 vise à inciter les entreprises à s’engager plus dans des initiatives sociales et environnementales de façon transparente et suivie. C’est aller au-delà de la nécessaire prise en compte des enjeux sociaux et environnementaux posée par l’article 1833 du Code civil révisé par la même loi. Bien qu’en phase de croissance, le label société à mission reste relativement peu diffusé. Il semble concerner ainsi surtout des entreprises de petite taille, présentes dans des activités de service et faisant partie de l’Économie sociale et solidaire. Pour le moment, les sociétés cotées en bourse semblent faire montre d’un faible intérêt pour ce label. Une des pionnières à avoir opté pour cette qualité, le groupe Danone, a d’ailleurs rencontré quelques difficultés. Notre contribution cherche à comprendre quels sont les avantages et les limites de ce nouveau label pour les entreprises et d’identifier des propositions pour améliorer son efficacité.
