Emerging indie band Hop Along is an act you need to know. Dad Rock-approved. Intelligent story-songs, emotive singing, jangly guitars, driving beats — it all makes for an immediately appealing sound. But further listening brings new textures and subtleties to the surface.

Hop Along's Frances Quinlan and Mark Quinlan sit down with Dad Rock hosts Patrick Foster and Jim Lenahan in this episode. They talk about their own music, and we also play songs that have inspired them, from Bob Dylan, Nirvana and more.

Hop Along's latest release is "Painted Shut," released in May on Saddle Creek Records. They recently completed a tour with the War on Drugs and will be appearing at festivals across the USA in the fall.

Dad Rock is a weekly podcast from USA TODAY, available on iTunes, SoundCloud, Stitcher and TuneIn.
