Abstract: 

New Zealand has emerged as a successful wine-producing and exporting country, and it is important to assess the role of Italian wines in the domestic market. Analyzing the trends of the past 10 years, the session will examine the breakdown of wine imports by country, focusing on quantity and value to understand the evolving market dynamics. Additionally, it is crucial to evaluate the different wine styles that are appreciated by New Zealand drinkers.

Over the past decade, there has been a notable increase in the importation of Italian wines. Italian wines have gained popularity among New Zealand consumers, and their presence in the market has been growing steadily in quantity and value.

The current wine importing regulatory framework with the recent new labeling requirements will be discussed together with the structure of the market: main actors, off- and on-premise and the growing online market.

Future: how to build upon the excellent success of Italian wines in NZ to maximize its potential.
