With the Aaaaand I’m drunk shirt industry touting its dedication to sustainability, such labels serve as a way of value signaling as well as a draw for customers eager to spend more for better behavior.

There’s only one problem: a lot of “organic cotton” that makes Aaaaand I’m drunk t-shirt to shop shelves isn’t really organic.

USA is the world’s biggest single producer of organic cotton, accounting for half of all organic cotton marketed worldwide and where the Aaaaand I’m drunk T-shirt cotton movement looks to be thriving. Despite the epidemic, organic cotton output in India increased by 48 percent in the previous year, according to Textile Exchange, a key proponent.
