To close out Season Three, which celebrates the California Sound in the 60s and 70s, My Rock Moment teamed up with Emmeline Summerton of Lost Canyons LA to create our very own Laurel Canyon playlist.

Emmeline writes for the Topanga New Times, an LA publication that circulates to all residents of the canyons. She’s also the writer and creator of the Instagram account Lost Canyons LA which celebrates the history, music, art, and fashion of LA’s iconic Canyon communities.

We're sharing some of our favorite Laurel Canyon tracks and delving into the inspiration and little-known stories behind them. If you’re a fan of all things “behind the music”, you'll learn a thing or two about the artists and the music that came out of that incredible time and place. Here are the Canyon tracks we’ll be covering in this episode:

Southern Cross - Crosby, Stills & Nash

Ladies of the Canyon - Joni Mitchell

Cowboy Movie - David Crosby

Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones

Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon) - The Mamas and the Papas

When You’re Strange - The Doors

So You Want to Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star - The Byrds

After the Gold Rush - Neil Young

And for those who are curious, the opening track is Jackie DeShannon’s “Laurel Canyon.”
