Think you know Babes in Toyland? Well, think again!
The Pittsburgh Savoyards is bringing to life Victor Herbert's 1903 operetta, Babes in Toyland at the Margaret Partee Performing Arts Center in Bellevue from December 6th to 21st. This is as true to the original production as you can get, as siblings Alan and Jane navigate the fantastical Toyland after fleeing from their wicked Uncle Barnaby.
Stage Director Robert Hockenberry and Production Manager Lynette Garlan, discuss the show's semi-trimmed down plot (it was originally 4 hours!), and how the team revived the music from just a video and vocal score. Robert talks about the classic tunes you will hear, such as March of the Toys and Toyland. He also highlights the story of this production that was written right here in Pittsburgh while Victor Herbert was the conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony!
They both also talk about Bellevue's Light Up Night on Saturday, December 7th from 5 to 9 pm. The Savoyards will be hosting a "make your own reindeer" station and will have Christmas Carolers wandering the street.
This show is perfect for your festive season, in-person or via their live-stream!
